Scotland Trains Still Missing

A few months ago we were told the new trains to run electric Manchester - Scotland services in 2013 would need to be ordered by September 2011 at the latest. The latest report is that an order might be placed "by early 2012."

This will leave Siemens with very tight timings if they are to deliver the trains on time.

Update on our "Missing" Trains

I have received a communication from the Department for Transport in response to a query about the lack of available electric trains for Liverpool-Manchester and Liverpool-Wigan services in 2014.

They say that "... it was assumed that Class 319s would be cascaded from Thameslink to operate the service. Whilst that still may be the case, it has emerged that vehicles from other sources could be available too."

They don't go on to explain what those sources are.

"New" Trains Running Late

Today Rail Minister Theresa Villiers announced details of the new trains to be built by Siemens for the Thameslink line in London. The first of these is scheduled to arrive in 2015. Some of the displaced Class 319 trains are to move to the Northwest.

So, the lines from Liverpool to Manchester and Wigan are scheduled to be electrified by 2014, but the electric trains won't arrive until a year later?
