Complaints in St Helens

This article in the St Helens Star reports that a number of residents near the line are complaining about the masts installed near their homes.

Complaints include spoilt views, close proximity of the masts to properties, and a leaky gas main that will be dangerous when the power is turned on.

The more cynical amongst us might suspect that this is an attempt to get compensation, and indeed the majority of the comments on the web page seem to be of that opinion.

  1. I'm amazed at the shortsightedness in that story. I'm from Merseyside but live in Toronto where the residents in areas near the new Airport Rail Link were so disappointed at the decision that it would start as a diesel service (with possible future electrification) that they took formed an association and took the Transit Authorities to court to try and get the decision overturned in the interest of having a quiet, efficient and fume-free service.

    1. I couldn't agree more.

Just wait until the power goes on and they can hear the insulators crackling in wet weather.

  2. I travelled from St Helens Central to Blackpool North on 28/2/2014 and to complain about masts that are no wider than lamp posts is a very weak argument. As Simon said a fume free, quiet and efficient service will be better for everyone. The trains will I believe have a third more passenger capacity which will be of benefit to everyone including the resident of Haresfinch.
