Northern Electric

I marched up to Huyton station to find a special notice on the departure panel.
A few minutes waiting on the platform, and then an unfamiliar train rolled in.
Yes!  This was 1F92, the 07.35 Manchester Airport to Liverpool Lime Street, the first ever electric train to call at Huyton, and 319363 was looking shiny in its new "Northern Electric" livery.
At Lime Street the regular commuters left the train.  I wonder how many of them noticed anything different.

The inside's a bit purple, isn't it?  Clean and bright, anyway.
It was soon time for '363 to head off on another run to the airport.

  1. They're only working Monday to Friday at present.

Went into Liverpool on the 09:22 from St Helens Junction (ex 08:40 from Manchester Airport) only to find a 156.

  2. Nice to see electrification spreading - less keen on the retention of 2+3 seating in the class 319s, though!

  3. So we have a new world record - longest wait from opening of a passenger railway to its electrification - 184 years, 5 1/2 months !!

  4. And it looks like we have just had the first 319 failure.

The 06:16 service from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport was cancelled this morning, apparently due to brake problems.

  5. There is a known issue that if the guard"activate" more than one door panel at once, it blows a fuse that needs fitters attention.... Thus the brakes can not be released and the passengers have to be detrained and the EBS de activated and unit runs empty to depot to be fixed.

  6. A minor modification should resolve those issues.
    They're quite nice to drive.
They feel solid & they're nippy once they get going.

  7. The 09:16 service from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Airport was cancelled today apparently due to a fault on 319365.

Not off to a good start then.
